THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF SCHOLARSHIPS

OPEN TO QUALIFYING STUDENTS - These scholarships can be applied to the college of your choice. Each scholarship has specific requirements to be met.

CAREER (MAJOR) SPECIFIC- These scholarships apply to a career field or college major. Some of these must be used at a specific college, while others can be used at the college of your choice.

REQUIRE NOMINATION- These scholarships require the high school to nominate candidates. If there is a scholarship in this category for which you feel you should be nominated please see your counselor.

SCHOOL SPECIFIC - In order to receive a scholarship from a particular college or university you must send an application to and be accepted by that college. The scholarship can only be used at that institution.

Nancy Jaynes Memorial Scholarship Award

Award Amount: $2,500

  • The Nancy Jaynes Memorial Scholarship is awarded to Indiana high school seniors who have lost a parent to breast cancer or have a parent currently undergoing breast cancer treatment. Named in honor of our founder, Nancy Jaynes, scholarships of up to $2,500 are available to students attending an Indiana college/university or post-secondary technical school.

  • For specific deadline dates and details, please see the 2025 Scholarship Application.

  • Scholarship award winners are eligible to apply for continuation scholarships up to three consecutive years.

BIG FUTURE SCHOLARSHIPS

Sophomores, juniors and seniors can qualify for scholarships. With no essay,  minimum GPA, test score, or citizenship requirements,  BigFuture makes it easy to enter drawings each month. Simply complete unlocked steps on your dashboard, and you'll be automatically entered to win. One step completed = one entry each month . Students whose families earn less than $60,000 a year receive two entries each drawing.

JACKIE ROBINSON FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP

Eligibility:

  • Be a graduating, minority high school senior.

  • Be a United States citizen.

  • Present evidence of financial need.

  • Demonstrate a record of academic excellence.

  • Demonstrate leadership potential and a dedication to community service.

  • Submit an official SAT and/or ACT test exam score from junior or senior year.

  • Plan to attend an accredited and approved 4-year college within the United States or affiliated with a United States-based college or university.

  • Have not accrued more than 25% of credits needed to graduate from college.

Application Components:

  • One recommendation.

  • Demographics.

  • High school information including an unofficial high school transcript.

  • College plans.

  • Test scores (AP, PSAT, ACT, or SAT) optional.

  • Activities and distinctions.

  • Household information.

  • Four essays.

VARSITY TUTORS SCHOLARSHIP

Varsity Tutors holds a monthly $1,000 college scholarship contest where applicants must write an essay in response to a monthly prompt. Visitors to the Varsity Tutors scholarship webpage are able to vote via social media for submitted entries. The top five entries with the most votes are reviewed by Varsity Tutors at the end of the month and one winner is subsequently chosen to receive the $1,000 college scholarship.

LEGACY FOUNDATION

JACK KENT COOKE FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP

Eligibility:

  • Senior standing – Complete four years of high school in the U.S., a U.S territory or on a U.S. military base and plan to graduate in spring 2025.

  • Fall College Enrollment – Intend to enroll in an accredited four-year college beginning in fall 2024.

  • GPA – Earn a minimum, cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.75 or above.

  • Demonstrate Unmet Financial Need – We will consider applicants with family annual gross income up to $95,000. During the selection process, the Foundation will conduct a full financial review which will take into account all income and assets of the student and the student’s parents.

To be eligible for the scholarship a student must:

  • Be in 11th or 12 grade.

  • Have achieved a GPA of 2.5 or greater during their last academic year.

RAY STOESSER SCHOLARSHIP

  1. Applicants should have the intention of pursuing a career in an agriculture-related field.

  2. Complete the online application form

  3. Submit a self-produced video no longer than 5 minutes answering the following question: What is your vision for the next generation of the U.S. rice industry?  Please cover topics relevant to the future of the US rice industry, such as food security/safety, sustainability, etc.

AIAA LOCKHEED MARTIN MARILLYN HEWSON SCHOLARSHIP

Eligibility Requirements

  • Currently enrolled high school senior intending to pursue an aerospace STEM Major in one of the following majors:

    • Aerospace Engineering

    • Computer Engineering

    • Computer Science

    • Electrical Engineering

    • Industrial Engineering

    • Mathematics

    • Mechanical Engineering

    • Physics

  • Minimum high school GPA of 2.50/4.00.

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.

  • Must Demonstrate Financial Need.

  • Should demonstrate an interest in a career in the aerospace defense sector.

Application Documents

  • Transcript showing your G.P.A. out of a 4.0 scale.

  • A 500-1,000 word essay specifying your career objectives and the academic program you want to follow to achieve them.

  • One (1) letter of recommendation from teachers, counselors, or professional references. Letters from friends or family will not be accepted.

  • A resume.

MINDSCAPE BIG PICTURE SCHOLARSHIP

The Mindscape Big Picture Scholarship was created to provide financial support for those who are looking to pursue higher education to understand how the world works.

This scholarship is open to all students who have a deep curiosity in studying the universe for its own sake—whether that be pursuing studies in physics, philosophy, biology, mathematics, literature, or any other field that seeks better understanding of our existence—and will seek to lift up those from underrepresented communities in those fields, and first-generation college students.
